August 2nd was my due date, however, that day came and went without an addition to our family.

Beneath my smile is an eviction notice to baby # 2.
I was frustrated with the refusal of baby # 2 to arrive, especially since we were experiencing several triple digit days in Colusa and my stomach was HUGE!
On the afternoon of August 4th, I went to Sutter Hospital in Davis with Luke for my 40 week check up. The doctor asked me if I would like to "strip my membranes" to try to get my labor started naturally. I said, "Yes please!" My biggest concern was that this baby would not come, and then I'd have to get induced with pitocin again.
During the procedure, my water broke and gushed everywhere - all over the examining table and on the floor. Both Luke and the doctor seemed equally horrified. The doctor then told us that the baby would likely arrive within 48 hours. I was so happy!!!
Later on that night, the contractions started. We left Colusa at 1am for the hospital. When we arrived, we found that I was only 3.5 centimeters dilated. I was devastated. We were discharged and told to come back when "you cannot talk through each contraction." We decided to get a hotel room at the Hallmark Inn in Davis. After checking in at 4am, we turned around at 6am to head back to the hospital. I couldn't bare the pain any longer, and thought, "Ohhhhh, this is what the nurses meant when they said I shouldn't be able to talk through the contractions!"
At the hospital, I had a great team of Luke, Midwife Vicky, Nurse Gift and a volunteer doula named Skye. I labored around the floor for a few hours, when around 9:00 am, I had had enough and so I demanded an epidural. I was delirious and adamant, but the midwife instead checked me to find out I was 10 cm dilated. It was time to push!
The labor team filled the bathtub with warm water and I got in. The water soothed the labor pains, and also helped with supporting my own weight. After an hour of pushing, baby was born at 10:56 am on August 5th. Yes, August 5th, which is also Clay's birthday!

Luke was a great labor partner! Here we are meeting Ryan for the first time.
Luke and I named him Ryan Leo. At birth, Ryan was 9 pounds, 6 ounces, and 22 inches long. We both couldn't believe what a huge baby he was. We were both so excited to meet baby Ryan. We stayed 1 night at the hospital. The next day, my parents and sisters came to meet "little" Ryan. Luke picked up Clay to meet Ryan as well.

Welcome to the world Ryan!!

Luke picked up Clay in Colusa and brought him to the hospital to meet Ryan for the first time. Clay was more interested in seeing his parents after not seeing them for a couple of days, but he also was pretty sweet to baby Ryan.
|
Maile and Annie also came up to Davis to meet Ryan. Maile, who also shares a birthday with Ryan and Clay, shows her excitement for her newest birthday buddy.
